A Success Story: Seamless Interpretation Across 12 Languages for FSC™ International

FSC case study interpretation

We, at Eurideas Language Experts recently collaborated with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) to provide live interpretation services during a critical virtual launch event on Zoom focused on the topic of global forest certification and sustainable practices. This project presented unique challenges due to the diversity of languages required and the need for seamless, real-time interpretation across multiple sessions.

About FSC International

We at Eurideas are honoured to support FSC International in their mission by facilitating communication and ensuring their important messages reach a global audience.

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) International is a global non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC sets robust, global standards for sustainable forestry, and the FSC logo – found on millions of products worldwide – confirms that certified products support responsible forestry. Their mission is to ensure forests are managed in a way that preserves biological diversity and benefits the lives of local communities and workers while ensuring it sustains economic viability. VIDEO:   Introducing FSC Aligned for EUDR – Global Launch

Challenges

While Eurideas Language Experts has a vast pool of interpreters, this project included some less common languages, such as Thai and Indonesian Bahasa, which required specialised attention to ensure the highest quality interpretation.

Interpreter Selection Process

To guarantee top-notch service, we leveraged our extensive database of interpreters and conducted a careful selection process:

Experienced Interpreters

We selected interpreters who are native speakers of the target languages and have at least 5 years of experience in simultaneous interpretation. Most of our interpreters are accredited by European Institutions, the United Nations, or are AIIC members. They also have university degrees in simultaneous interpreting and extensive experience with Zoom.

Client Preferences

FSC had specific preferences based on past experiences, particularly for Turkish interpreters. One interpreter, who had previously provided outstanding service, was requested again and was fortunately available for this event.

Execution

With a well-coordinated team of interpreters in place, the sessions were executed smoothly. Each interpreter was briefed thoroughly to ensure they were well-prepared for the topics discussed during the webinar on global forest certification and sustainable practices. They used high-quality headsets, microphones, and stable internet connections to deliver their services effectively. They preferred cable internet over Wi-Fi and had backup computers or laptops ready.

Feedback

The success of the project was affirmed by the positive feedback from FSC International.

“The interpreters were fantastic during the sessions. Very professional and up to the task. They made the event truly successful and added a global feel to it, which it truly is.”

This feedback highlights the professionalism and effectiveness of the interpreters, underscoring the importance of high-quality interpretation in making global events successful.

Conclusion

This project with FSC International shows our capability to manage complex, multilingual events efficiently. By leveraging a network of skilled interpreters and careful planning, we ensured a seamless experience for our client, contributing to the success of their global webinar on forest certification and sustainability.

How Eurideas Helped ISOPA/ALIPA Meet EU Regulations: Translating Chemical Safety Training Materials into Multiple Languages

Since 2010, Eurideas has collaborated with ISOPA and ALIPA – trade associations representing European manufacturers of diisocyanates, polyols, aliphatic isocyanates and polyisocyanates. In 2022, we expanded our partnership to help them meet new regulatory requirements under the EU’s REACH regulation. That regulation requires workers handling diisocyanates to undergo certified safety training across Europe. To ensure full compliance, ISOPA and ALIPA developed comprehensive training materials, which needed to be translated into all the official EU languages, and later into non-EU languages as well.

The Challenge

In response to new REACH regulations requiring mandatory training for all industrial and professional users of diisocyanates by August 2023, ISOPA and ALIPA together developed comprehensive training materials to ensure workers across Europe are properly trained in the safe handling of such chemicals. The training covers topics like chemical safety protocols, personal protective equipment (PPE), and first-aid procedures, ensuring compliance with stringent EU health and safety standards.

We were asked to proofread and post-edit those highly technical training materials, which had been translated using AI into multiple EU and non-EU languages. The materials, including presentations, video voiceovers, scripts, e-learning modules, and other digital resources, were carefully refined to ensure the accuracy of the terminology. As a result, the training content is now fully available in several languages without compromising on the precision required by diisocyanate safety regulations. That ensures workers can meet the mandatory training requirements in their native language.

Due to the large volume, ISOPA / ALIPA used an AI solution to generate the translations. We were then brought in to provide crucial post-editing and proofreading services to ensure the linguistic and technical accuracy of the content. The challenge was not only the sheer volume of material but also the highly specialised nature of the chemical terminology.

The Process

Our expertise in technical translations – particularly in the field of chemistry – enabled us to manage this project effectively. Our team of experts carefully reviewed and refined the AI-generated translations to ensure that all materials were accurate and consistent. We handled large amounts of content while maintaining a strong focus on industry-specific terminology.

Initially, the translations focused on some EU languages (Bulgarian, Croatian, Irish, Swedish, Slovak, Slovenian, and Romanian). However, as the project expanded, we also translated the content into Turkish, Russian, and Chinese. Since then, all the other EU languages have been translated internally through the efforts of members and partner associations of ISOPA and ALIPA. That has allowed ISOPA and ALIPA to offer training materials beyond Europe, in line with the global nature of their safety initiatives.

Success and Impact

We asked ISOPA/ALIPA about their experiences of working on this project and the impact of their training initiatives. Below is the interview, in which they shared their insights on the success of the programme, the role of translation and their collaboration with Eurideas.

Q: How many workers have been trained so far? How many training sessions were delivered?

ISOPA/ALIPA:

“ISOPA is proud to say almost 800,000 workers have been trained via our online platform alone. In addition to that, many have been trained via internal and external trainers, other online platforms and companies conducting training internally. Already around 1 million workers are estimated to have been trained via our own platform, our partners, and our network. We are therefore also excited to share that we intend to further expand the training to a global scale to deliver valuable training to workers worldwide.”

Q: How did the translation and post-editing improve the effectiveness of your training programme?

ISOPA/ALIPA:

“Automated translation programs only get you so far. When it comes to highly specialized and technical subjects, we require expert human translations. This is especially the case when talking about vital issues such as human safety, where all small details matter greatly. It is therefore crucial that the translations are accurate and appropriate. Without the professional work of Eurideas, it would not have been feasible to produce the training in all required languages.”

Q: Can you share a few words about your experiences of working with Eurideas on this project? How did our service contribute to the overall success of the initiative?

ISOPA/ALIPA:

“Eurideas has been a great help to us with providing technical translations for languages. Collaborating with an external translation organization can be a highly beneficial experience, especially when working under time pressure on multilingual projects. Eurideas’ professionalism ensured accurate and appropriate translations, key to maintaining the clarity of the content. Moreover, timely delivery and open communication are also strengths that make working together with Eurideas a seamless process.”

Why Eurideas?

This project highlights our strong ability to handle specialised technical content, particularly within the chemical industry. Our deep understanding of chemical terminology and commitment to delivering high-quality translations have made us a trusted partner of ISOPA / ALIPA. We pride ourselves on providing comprehensive multilingual solutions that meet the needs of global organisations navigating complex regulatory environments.

The Critical Importance of Professional SPC Translations

Precise SPC translations are vital for timely approvals. However, navigating ECHA requirements and guidelines can be a complex task. Any errors or misinterpretations can lead to delays and potential financial setbacks. Our professional translation services ensure that your regulatory language is clear and accurate, helping you avoid time-consuming revisions and market losses.

Once it’s finalised, we’ll quickly update the translations according to ECHA’s requirements, ensuring timely delivery.

For shorter SPCs, we can translate the final version within the strict deadline, though starting early is always preferable. Our tailored workflows are designed to meet tight timelines, no matter the document length.

The Importance of Style in Machine Translation Services – Precision in Translation Part 3

Machine Translation style

Machine Translation (MT) has come a long way, but it’s not perfect.  For those times when precision and a personal touch matter, particularly in documents where style is crucial like marketing materials, our advanced MT plus post-editing and proofreading services play an important role. Here’s why that matters to you.

Style Matters

Every company has specific preferences when it comes to style. Some may need a formal and technical tone, while others might opt for a conversational flair. When we engage in advanced post-editing and proofreading, we go beyond just correcting grammar, punctuation, and typos. In addition, we refine the style to ensure the final text not only meets your specific requirements but also resonates effectively with your target audience. That personalised touch enables delivery of content that not only conveys the right message, but also has the intended impact.

The Right Match

Understanding the difference between our services is key. For straightforward projects like technical texts that require factual accuracy but not linguistic nuance, basic MT with post-editing is sufficient. Here, the focus is on correcting technical errors without altering the style extensively.

However, for content where style is as important as substance – such as for creative documents – we recommend opting for MT with additional post-editing and proofreading. That service ensures the tone, style and flow are well-crafted, aligning closely with your brand’s voice.

Consistency in Style

Maintaining a consistent style across all translated materials is vital for brand identity. Different post-editors may have different approaches, so matching the right editor with the right project is key. Such consistency helps you build a recognisable and reliable brand voice, which is crucial for client satisfaction.

The Benefit of Telling Us Your Requirements

The more information you share with us about your needs and the nature of your project, the better we can tailor our services to suit them. Whether that means providing a glossary for consistency in terminology or detailing the desired tone, every piece of information helps us fine-tune our approach.

Tailored Solutions

That’s why we focus on matching the right translator and post-editor to your project. For instance, if you previously appreciated the style a particular translator delivered, we can arrange for the same professional to handle your latest project too. That ensures consistency across your materials, enhancing both the coherence and the impact of your content.

Conclusion

Our machine translation plus post-editing and proofreading service isn’t just about fixing mistakes; it’s about adapting the content to meet your stylistic and linguistic expectations. By carefully choosing the right combination of services and professionals for your project, we ensure each translation not only achieves accuracy, but also aligns perfectly with your vision. At Eurideas, we are committed to delivering translations that uphold the highest quality standards and meet with your complete satisfaction.

The Importance of Providing Error-Free and Well-Written Materials – Precision in Translation Part 2

Providing materials that are free from errors and well-written is crucial for any successful translation project. Such aspects can significantly impact the accuracy and efficiency of the translation process. From typos in Word documents to missing sentences and problematic PDF conversions, let’s explore why high-quality source materials are essential for smooth and precise translations.

Typos and Translation Memory (TM) Matches

Imagine working with a Word document riddled with typos. Not only do such errors affect readability, but they also prevent Translation Memory (TM) tools from finding exact matches. A typo might seem minor, but it can lead to significant inconsistencies and reduce the overall quality of the translation. A consistent, error-free source text ensures that TM tools can do their job effectively, saving time and improving accuracy.

Missing Sentences and Clarifications

Occasionally, source documents arrive with incomplete sentences or missing sections. That disrupts the translation flow and necessitates back-and-forth communication for clarification. Each query can delay the project and lead to potential misunderstandings. Providing a complete and coherent source text from the outset helps avoid such interruptions and keeps the project on track.

Converting PDFs to Word Files

PDFs are often used for their convenience and fixed formatting, but they can be a nightmare to convert into workable Word documents. The conversion process can introduce errors, such as misaligned text, missing characters and formatting issues. Such problems make the document difficult to work with and increase the risk of translation errors. Whenever possible, it is best to provide original, editable files like Word documents to ensure that the text remains intact and is easy to translate.

The Value of High-Quality Source Materials

High-quality source materials streamline the translation process in several ways:

  1. Consistency: A consistent source text allows TM tools to function optimally, ensuring unified terminology and style.
  1. Efficiency: Complete and accurate source documents reduce the need for clarifications, speeding up the translation process.
  1. Accuracy: Providing clear and error-free source files minimises the risk of mistakes slipping in during translation

Conclusion

Providing well-organised, well-written, and error-free documents is essential for accurate and efficient translations. By making sure your documents are typo-free, complete and in an editable format, you can help your translation team deliver the best results. At Eurideas, we recognise the importance of such materials and are dedicated to delivering translations that adhere to the highest standards.

The Importance of Reference Materials – Precision in Translation Part 1

Providing us with your reference materials can make all the difference, enabling us to deliver translations of even higher quality to your benefit. Such resources, including glossaries, style guides and previously translated documents, help our translators capture your unique style and terminology, leading to more accurate translations.

Boosting Accuracy

Reference materials are indispensable in achieving the highest accuracy in translations. They provide a wealth of specific information that guides translators to uphold your brand’s unique language and style. With access to glossaries, style guides, and previously translated content, translators are better equipped to use the correct terminology and stylistic nuances that your organization prefers. This approach not only prevents the common errors that can occur with less informed translations but also ensures that each piece of translated content is consistent with your established brand identity. Furthermore, this attention to detail helps in preserving the integrity of technical or industry-specific terms that might otherwise be misunderstood or inaccurately rendered.

Capturing Your Voice

Every company has a distinct voice that reflects the brand. Reference materials offer translators a window into that voice, allowing them to adapt their translations accordingly. Whether your tone is formal, professional, casual, or conversational, accessing such resources ensures the translation feels authentic and true to the brand.

Increasing Satisfaction

When translations align closely with your expectations, satisfaction is naturally the result. Accurate, on-brand translations build trust and demonstrate a deep understanding of your needs. That not only leads to repeat business but also strengthens the overall relationship.

Streamlining the Translation Process

Reference materials can also make the translation process more efficient. With clear guidelines and examples to follow, translators can work faster and with greater confidence. That reduces the need for revisions and back-and-forth communication, saving both you and the translator time.

Conclusion

Incorporating reference materials into the translation process is a win-win for everyone involved. Translators can produce higher-quality work that resonates with your brand, while you enjoy the benefits of accurate, consistent, and engaging translations. By using those valuable resources, we can ensure that every translation project meets and exceeds expectations.

No More One-Size-Fits-All Approach

Once upon a time, there was human translation. It was the only option available for anyone wanting to understand a foreign document.
But not anymore.

The Power of Choice

We all like choosing from several options because it gives us a sense of autonomy and control over our decisions. Having a variety of possibilities allows us to compare different choices and weigh up the pros and cons. That lets us select the solution that best fits our objectives and needs. Such flexibility is particularly important in the world of translation services.

Expanding Our Services

Since extending our range of services to include machine translation, we’ve received positive feedback from our clients. They enjoy the freedom of choice, allowing them to opt for human translation or various machine translation solutions depending on the nature of the document and its purpose.  Such adaptability is a major advantage for many clients with complex translation needs.

Benefits of Machine Translation

The machine translation option is popular with clients seeking a cost-effective solution for certain types of content. Over 30% of our translation projects are completed with the assistance of AI. Clients who choose one of our machine translation services can expect a quick turnaround time and lower costs than for fully human translation.

Ensuring Quality and Accuracy

To ensure the quality and accuracy of the translation, we always include human post-editing in the process, sometimes with additional proofreading.  Our human translators review the AI-generated content, making necessary corrections and adjustments. That ensures the text reads naturally and accurately communicates the original message. As a result, the final translation is polished and meets the client’s requirements.

Personalised Translation Solutions

The era of one-size-fits-all translation services is behind us. Today, you have the power to choose from among a variety of options to ensure you get the solution that best matches your project.
